The merican mbassador presents his compliments

to Earl Curzon of Kedleston, and with reference to previous correspundence regarding the hinese opium traffic, has the honour to inform :is Lordship that he is in receipt of a telegram from the Acting, ecretary of state in fashington, suggesting that mis majesty's Foreign Xfice be informed that, while the United States Government is in hearty sympathy with the idea of the suppression of the illegal trade in opium, it nevertheless hesitates to agree in advance as to whether this is a matter which may be incorporated in the Peace Treaty until such time as the subject is actually brought to the consideration of the conference.
